You Can’t Plant New Seeds in a Garden Full of Weeds

I’m not much of a gardener, but I’ve always admired people who are, especially Walter. He’s our residential gardening expert. The kind of person who can turn a patch of dirt into a vibrant, bountiful garden.

The other day, I wandered out back to check on his progress. I expected to find him planting something new or maybe planning ways to add even more space to our ever growing backyard garden. But instead, I found him knee-deep in the soil, yanking out weeds with serious focus.

I made a comment, something like, “You’ve been out here forever. What are you doing?”

Without even looking up, he said, “You can’t plant new seeds in a garden full of weeds.”

And just like that, it hit me.

That’s not just gardening advice. That’s life advice.

Growth doesn’t happen on autopilot. If you want to see real results, you’ve got to be just as intentional about what you’re pulling out as what you’re trying to grow.

That means getting rid of the mental weeds that crowd out your goals:

  • The excuses that sound like “I don’t have time.”
  • The limiting beliefs like “Who am I to try this?”
  • The outdated habits you keep falling back on even though they’ve never taken you where you want to go.

Just like in the garden, if we don’t clear space, nothing new can thrive.

Weed Out the Stuff That’s Holding You Back

Take a look at what’s growing in your internal garden right now. Are your goals thriving? Or are they getting choked out by the same weeds that have held you back before?

Things like:

  • “I’m too busy.”
  • “I’m not ready.”
  • “I’ve failed before, so what’s the point?”

Those are weeds. And if we don’t pull them up, they spread.

If we want to grow, we have to get honest. What’s taking up space in your mindset that no longer serves you? What limiting beliefs need to go? What patterns or thought loops are stealing your focus and potential?

Dust Off Your Goals

Maybe you started this year with energy and clarity. Maybe you didn’t. Either way, today is a fresh opportunity to reconnect with what really matters.

What goals are still calling to you? What version of yourself are you ready to grow into?

Now is the time to dust them off and recommit. Not in a hustle-harder kind of way—but with purpose. With intention. With a mindset that’s finally ready to support the growth you want.

Daily Growth Takes Daily Care

Here’s something else I’ve been thinking about lately: you don’t see growth right away. You plant the seed. You water it. You give it sunlight. And at first, it looks like nothing’s happening.

But if you’re consistent, if you show up day after day, eventually something breaks through. And when it does, it changes everything.

That’s exactly what The Locker Room is all about.

It’s not just motivation or inspiration. It’s daily sunlight for your mindset. It’s consistent watering for your habits. It’s a place where you show up, even when you don’t feel like it, and watch something powerful start to grow.

No one sees results from one gym session. One healthy meal. One encouraging thought. Growth comes from repetition. Support. Accountability. Community.

That’s what we do inside the Locker Room. Click here to join us.

This Is Your Season

Nature doesn’t resist change, it embraces it. It leans in. It releases what’s no longer serving. And it always makes space for what’s next.

So let this season be your signal.

Pull the weeds. Let go of what’s been weighing you down. Plant the kind of goals that light you up again.

And then? Water them daily. Tend to them with care. And surround yourself with people who want to grow, too.

You are not stuck. You are one fresh mindset away from massive growth.

Let’s go for it.
