Virtual Meeting Recap: Speed, Power and Big Macs

During last week's virtual meeting, we started our conversation by looking into the parallels between success in sports and business, emphasizing the importance of having audacious goals to differentiate winners from champions. Just like in sports, achieving success in business requires deliberate effort and a mindset geared towards excellence. We discussed how many organizations fluctuate between periods of success and mediocrity, and how achieving championship status demands careful planning and dedication to being the best in your field.

We also talked about the buzzword “organic growth” which led to the motto of the meeting: Speed is power!

One key takeaway from the meeting was the idea that audacious goals should be the north star for any organization. These goals should launch innovation, inspire, and be challenging yet achievable. We discussed the concept that speed is power in business, emphasizing the importance of decisive action and seizing opportunities before they slip away. We learned from the example of Blockbuster, which missed out on an opportunity to acquire Netflix due to moving too slowly.

The power of two was another key theme discussed during the meeting. This concept, inspired by Walter’s college basketball coach, highlights the importance of simplicity and focus. By focusing on just two things, individuals and organizations can transform anything. We learned how decisive action and overhiring to anticipate growth can lead to success, as seen in the example of Tilted Kilt and Jersey Mike's.

We also examined the importance of consistency and innovation in building successful brands, using McDonald's and Dunkin' Donuts as examples. We discussed how McDonald's built its brand on the consistency of the Big Mac and its ability to market to customers' emotions. We were challenged to identify our own "Big Mac" – the product or service that sets us apart from the competition.

A few other things that are important to take away from this meeting include:

  • Ultra successful people are decisive.
  • Your business will grow at the pace in which you do.
  • You can do two things and transform anything
  • Advice from the founder of Jersey Mikes: “I overhire anticipating growth”

This meeting was high-energy and interactive, and there were a lot of “Aha!” moments that I’m confident will transfer over into deceive action, which in turn will lead to growth and progress.

We’re thankful for everyone who joined in and shared their goals and strategies, and we’re looking forward to next week where we’ll continue to move through the champions roadmap and start learning more about shared fate.

We have another meetup this Friday at 2:00 and we hope you’ll join us!
